Barbershop music is presented a cappella
(no instrumental accompaniment) and is sung in
four-part harmony. The close blending of the voices brings out
an unsung fifth part, sometimes called an overtone or angel’s
voice, and is unique to barbershop music. The style of music
originated in African-American communities around the turn of
the last century and was popularized in its current form in the
1940’s.
Attention, singers!
If you are at least 16 years of age, are interested in singing, and think you might enjoy being a part of this group, we’d love to have you visit any rehearsal to find out more about us! We meet every Monday evening from 7–9:30 p.m. at the Wamego High School Music Room. If you are interested in more information about visiting a chorus rehearsal, please call Carla Malone at 636-5289 or Donna Keyser at 776-0212.
The chorus’s mission is to offer
a creative outlet for women of all ages and backgrounds;
to
teach the craft of barbershop singing and harmony; and to
provide a supportive, enriching
and fun-filled fellowship for
our members.
