PRESS RELEASE

The Wamego Dutch Mill Chorus, a chapter of Sweet Adelines International, was named the 2009 Chorus Champion at the Region 7 competition in Overland Park, KS, on April 4. This is the first time in its 27 year history that the chorus has won this regional competition, placing best overall out of 15 choruses and also receiving a first place award for mid-size choruses. As the regional winner, Wamego Dutch Mill Chorus will represent the region at the 2010 Sweet Adelines International Competition in Seattle, WA. Under the direction of Kathy Cornish of Topeka, the chorus has nearly 50 members that come from within a 100-mile radius of their rehearsal site at Wamego High School. Five quartets from the chorus also competed: Bright Idea (Pamela Sumners, Vikki Erker, Sally Vonada, Lori Goetsch), Java (Cara Malone, Bridget Troyer, Christy Collette, Cindy Carlyon), Classic Blend (Katie Massieon, Wendy Hartwick, Linda Ireland, and Ann Stewart), and Harmonious Synergy (Jessica Fritz, Deanna Barleen, Cathy Scroggs, and Shannon Fritz). Chorus member Jeanne Johnson competed with three other regional members in the quartet Hot Ticket. Sweet Adelines International promotes women’s four-part barbershop-style singing worldwide and has over 25,000 members. Region 7 is one of 35 regions and has 500 members from Kansas, western Missouri, southwestern Iowa, and eastern Nebraska. Each region holds an annual competition to select a top chorus and top quartet to compete in the organization’s international competition.

Dutch Mill Sweet Adelines will add a special touch to 'Singspiration'
To the Editor:

Congratulations to the Dutch Mill Sweet Adelines of Wamego. Last weekend in Kansas City, they competed with 15 other choruses at the Sweet Adelines International Region 7 convention. They won first place by a margin of 30 contest points.
The competition included choruses from Kansas, Missouri, Nebraska and Iowa. This Saturday, April 11, in McCain Auditorium, Manhattan's Little Apple Chorus will be proud to have the Wamego Dutch Mill Sweet Adelines perform with our chorus. We will perform two songs as a combined chorus of more than 90 voices. The ladies also will perform the two numbers they sang when they won the competition in Kansas City.

The Little Apple Chorus Show, "Singspiration" in Barbershop Harmony, will be presented twice this Saturday — at 2 and 7:30 p.m. — at McCain Auditorium. Playing one-half hour before each show will be the Manhattan Barefoot Dixieland Band. This year's guest quartet is Lucky Day. It is a new quartet composed of two members who are international award winners and two new guys who soon will be.
The show will be a unique opportunity for Manhattan to enjoy some wholesome hometown entertainment. The Little Apple Chorus is a chapter of the Barbershop Harmony Society and is a not-for-profit organization that promotes a capella singing for people of all ages.
